About Glyndwr's Way National Trail
Starting at the Town Clock in the market town of Knighton and ending on the Montgomery Canal (also known as ‘the Monty’) in Welshpool, Glyndwr's National Trail is named after Owain Glyndŵr, Prince of Wales and Mediaeval Welsh nationalist leader who organised a rebellion against the English king, Henry IV in 1400.
As you walk the trail you'll pass through some of the finest landscapes in Wales including the peaceful Radnorshire Hills, the tranquil shores of the Clywedog Reservoir and heather clad Plynlimon, the highest point of the Cambrian Mountains. You'll enjoy spectacular views over Cadair Idris, Lake Vyrnwy, and Y Golfa.
Glyndwr's Way National Trail reaches its highest point at Foel Fadian from which on a clear day you can see the sea. Other highlights of the trail include Powis Castle, the Grade II listed Hall at Abbey-Cwm-Hir, Bryntail Lead Mine, the Glaslyn Nature Reserve and the Owain Glyndŵr Centre.
You don’t have to walk the Trail in one go to enjoy the best it has to offer. You can enjoy it as a series of day walks.
