This guidebook describes the South Downs Way National Trail between Winchester and Eastbourne on England's south coast. Described in 12 daily stages in both east-west (Eastbourne to Winchester) and west-east (Winchester to Eastbourne) directions.
The South Downs Way is, deservedly, one of the most popular National Trails. At 100 miles long it is easily completed in a week. It follows the South Downs northern escarpment for most of the way, only descending to reach settlements and cross rivers. Generally easy underfoot the trail links ancient and historical tracks, fine woodland, delightful river valleys and lovely villages.
