Tamara Coast to Coast Way - Zigzag map 1 - Cremyll to Lifton

This map covers the first half of the Tamara Coast to Coast Way from Cremyll to Lifton.

The Tamara Coast to Coast Way starts in Cremyll and ends in Morwenstow, a distance of approximately 87 miles. This first Tamara Coast to Coast Way map is from Cremyll to Lifton, a distance of about 47 miles. The second map covers the northern section.

Starting at Cremyll, with views across Plymouth Sound, you move inland where the Tamara Coast to Coast Way trail takes you through Mount Edgcumbe Country Park, with its formal gardens and historic estate. As you walk along the banks of the River Tamar, you pass Saltash with views of the Tamar Bridge and the Royal Albert Bridge. Wending you way up the Tamar Valley National Landscape (formerly AONB), you come to Calstock with the impressive viaduct and the historic Morwellham Quay, a living museum of the area's mining heritage. The Tamara Coast to Coast Way route takes you through Bere Alston and on to Gunnislake. The path follows close to the river before climbing up to Milton Abbot, a big climb, then dropping down to Lifton whilst skirting the impressive Kelly House.

The initiative to develop the Tamara Coast to Coast Way involved local councils, conservation organizations, and community groups, all aiming to promote sustainable tourism and outdoor recreation in the region. The trail was carefully planned to incorporate existing footpaths, bridleways, and quiet country lanes, ensuring minimal environmental impact while maximizing accessibility for walkers, cyclists, and nature enthusiasts. It also aimed to highlight the region's rich mining history with remnants of the area's industrial past, such as old mine buildings and quarries.

What is different about a Zigzag map?

The main difference is the scale – although these maps use the ever-popular Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 scale mapping they show this mapping at a larger scale – 1:20,000. This makes them very much easier to use for everyone.

They are also laminated, so you can use them in the wet without fear of them disintegrating.

As their name suggests, Zigzag maps come in a concertina strip format and with 200cm of mapping, they can follow a long distance footpath at a scale of 1:20,000 for up to 30 miles (depending on the wiggles). The maps are made for convenience; you need only unfold 2 panels at a time and then keep on flipping over to follow the path. Zigzag is laminated for weatherproofing and will still fit a pocket when folded.

Maps come with a useful scale ruler.
